Your hosts, John and Margaret Clarke, have travelled extensively in France, and have come to love the country, its people, food, cultural heritage and stunning scenery. John, for many years a well-known ABC Radio broadcaster, has a vast knowledge of food and wine, as well as a deep interest in history, especially military history. This knowledge is particularly useful in our forthcoming Western Front Tours. (For more details contact us. See the Planned Tours page for details) Margaret, adores France, and has organized the daily itineraries to fully reflect French life, both historical and cultural. We host groups twice a year in Spring and Autumn as they are ideal times to visit France. The weather is mild and there are no queues. Our tours are for friendly groups of no more than 10 people, as we believe that this number is intimate, fun and moveable. Our base is a delightful 18th Century château in which we are the sole occupants. We also cater for interest groups such as artists or photographers. The light in France is legendary, and is at its best during the European Spring and Autumn. We can tailor a tour especially for your needs, either as an exclusive group, or as a component of one of our regular tours. As well, our tours work on an all-inclusive price. All meals, including those at the chateau, and restaurant meals, as well as all wine, beer, and the Champagne Bar are included in the price. Also all admissions to attractions that require a fee are included. In addition, we provide a pick-up and drop-off service to either Cahors or Toulouse, also included in the fee. So, you know up front, how much it is going to cost you. There are two packages that we offer, seven nights, or ten. It’s up to you! We provide an insight into a truly wonderful part of the world, rich in history, both social and culinary. Packing up and moving each day can be a tiring experience, so we’ll be staying in the one luxurious chateau, and going out each day, either to a market, on a tour, or for lunch or dinner. Or maybe all four! One aspect of the success of our French experiences is due to our in-house chef. His or her role is to prepare all meals in the chateau using the wonderful fresh ingredients purchased in local markets.
We invite chefs from leading Australian restaurants, to travel to France, absorb the culture, ingredients and produce, and to create unforgettable meals in the chateau. Needless to say, our guest chefs all understand French Chateau Stay’s philosophies regarding food, ingredients and culinary excellence. For those who are keen home cooks, our chefs enjoy demonstrating techniques, using the wonderful ingredients we have on hand, and passing on recipes and professional tips. They are also on hand to advise the home cook on the sourcing and purchasing of kitchen equipment, and other supplies. |
